We get it, nobody wants to admit that their wedding day may not be filled with bright sunshine and vibrant Colorado bluebird skies. Colorado does boast 300 days of sunshine per year, but what happens when your special days ends up happening on one of the remaining 65? Read more to learn what to do if it rains on your wedding day.

How to Prepare for Your Colorado Mountain Wedding When the Weather Isn’t Looking Great

At Colorado Tents and Events, we have seen it all and are here to help make sure you are prepared – no matter what the weather forecast says! We have compiled our top recommendations for when temperatures are going to be chilly and rain or snow may be crashing your outdoor Colorado mountain wedding.

Top 5 Cold/Rainy Weather Wedding Must-Haves

Heaters

Wedding Guests Around Fire Pit

Even when it is cold outside, many guests still enjoy socializing outdoors in order to enjoy the beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery. Renting space heaters is a great way to encourage guests to mingle outside without suffering. Choose from heaters with small cocktail tables for beverages and appetizers, stylish lava heaters to set the mood or a large firepit for guests to gather around.

Warm Beverages

If it is looking like there is going to be a chill in the air, be sure to plan for a warm beverage station. Setting up an area with hot coffee, build-your-own hot chocolate bar and/or spiced apple cider with warm your guests from the inside and keep them dancing all night long!

Covered Spaces

Whether it is going to be sunny, rainy or snowy, it is extremely important to have somewhere for guests to get out of the elements. Even on the nicest days, out of state guests may feel overwhelmed by the strength of the high-elevation Colorado sunshine. Putting up a tent, but keeping the sidewalls open allows you to enjoy the outdoors, while still being protected.

If it is looking like rain or snow, you will want to make sure this space is even larger. Our event specialists are a great resource for determining how large of a tent you will need for your specific event, what kind of sidewalls to reserve and how many heaters will be needed to keep the space warm.

Rain on Wedding Day Tips

Photo: Ali & Garrett Photography

What should you do if it is going to rain on your wedding day? There is no need to let a little rain ruin your outdoor wedding in the Colorado Rockies. We rent white umbrellas for this very reason! The white umbrellas contrast moody skies perfectly to create stunning photo opportunities. Even if it is just a chance of rain, having a basket of umbrellas available will put everyone at ease. If worst-case scenario, it does rain, you will be prepared!

Back-Up Plan

Flash Colorado Thunder StormWhile we hope that it never comes to this for our clients, the weather in Colorado can have a mind of its own and it can become unsafe or unbearable for guests. Even with a tent and heaters, sometimes you need to get indoors quickly. It is important to have a back-up plan, just in case you find yourself in this situation. This doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. It can even be as simple as “We will all go to a local restaurant/bar!” but having a plan in advance will put you at ease and make decision making in the moment a piece of cake.
